History of Jal Mahal
The name of this wonderful historical heritage of India is ‘Jal Mahal’, which is in Jaipur. Actually, it is a palace. Sawai Jai Singh built this palace situated in the middle of Mansagar Lake on the Jaipur-Amer road in 1799. Before the construction of this palace, Jaisingh had constructed the Mansagar Lake by building a dam on the Garbhavati River for the water supply of Jaipur. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city is a magnificent and serene water palace. The water palace is also called Jal Mahal because of its location in the middle of Mansagar Lake.
Jal Mahal Architecture
Jal Mahal is a five-storied building inspired by the Rajput architectural style. Four floors of Jal Mahal are submerged in water, and only the fifth floor is visible.
The architect built the palace of red sandstone and added four octagonal-shaped chhatris at its corners. Maharaja Jai Singh II renovated the palace in the 18th century.
The fort boasts a grand collection of 21 exquisitely crafted pillars. Atop the magnificent palace lies a splendid garden named Chameli Bagh. Talented dancers used the platform within this enchanting garden.
Who built the Jal Mahal?
The Maharaja had built a palace to take a bath with the queens. This Jal Mahal, also known as Eye Ball because of its location in the middle of the lake, sits in the womb of Aravalli Hills.
The king used this palace to spend special time with his queen. The king used the Jal Mahal at royal festivals also. They built it in 1799.
